　条文は次の通り。
　第四章 国会
　第五十五条 両議院は、各々その議員の資格に関する争訟を裁判する。但し、議員の議席を失はせるには、出席議員の三分の二以上の多数による議決を必要とする。

　Article 55.
　Each House shall judge disputes related to qualifications of its members. However, in order to deny a seat to any member, it is necessary to pass a resolution by a majority of two-thirds or more of the members present.
考え方
　この条文は、議員になった後に、その議員たる資格の喪失について規定している。
　類似の条文に58条があるが、58条は院内秩序に関する懲罰であるのに対し、この55条は議員の資格の争訟裁判の結果という趣旨の差がある。結果として議員の身分を剥奪するものであるので、両者の結果的な効果はほぼ同じである。
